International Strategic Engagement Fund
Planning and Budget Committee allocated $500,000 to International Engagement in 2007 to support international strategic activities overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Relations). The sorts of activities funded under the International Strategic Engagement Fund (ISEF) include:
- network activities
- research and research training
- strategic research initiatives
- regional engagement
- knowledge transfer
Among other things, the funds were used to:
- assist professorial staff participate in specialist workshops on Climate Change and Public Health conducted by the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) World Institute
- establish and promote a PhD Collaboration Agreement with seven Malaysian universities (the Malaysian “Split PhD Agreement”)
- establish or supplement internal international research grant opportunities for visiting scholars , international research planning workshops and joint research projects
- fund the Go8 European Fellowship and a variety of conference, workshop and seminar activity, including the Conference on Democracy Development and Civil Society in India
- explore the establishment of the Melbourne Global Citizens program as a university breadth subject
